This Halloween Happening Now Tasting ought to get highly personal. Back in those days long long ago as a young student of numerous subjects I happened to consume this very Catalan on a regular basis. Of course different vintages back then. I could image that I must have been young, not all too poor (because this one wasn't out of the lowest shelf ... actually I think back then it was even more expensive than nowadays ... which is hard to comprehend) and of course quite dumb back then. The latter might not have altered all too much I am afraid. Unfortunately I have no witty explanation why I showed such bizzare behaviour to rebuy this Tempranillo that often. Probably too long ago. I haven't had it since ... and now I am quite curious what I've been drinking in those not so good old days. That's why I'd like to give it a go ...
8:55 pm (popped a few hours ago)
Hue: radiant and vital darkish ruby without obvious signs of it slightly seasoned age
Conk: barnyard, assumed boar sweat, sesame, leather, brighter red berries, dried herbs, natural glue agents, dry paper, chicken soup - not sure what to make out of this. Not super appealing though
Tongue: very pronounced and lively-harsh acid, no butch body at all, no marmelade driven fruit either, plenty of nuances of oak - rather bitterish, cellulose fibre aka handkerchief (unused and dry of course), bright red berry fruits - mostly red currant, however rather inharmonious and slighly bitterish as well, the nasal glue is somehow lingering in the background, the herbal touch much less present than the nasal impressions seemed to predict them
... so far not as miserable as I feared it to be. I can see a certain explanation why I might have liked this wine back then. More from the elegant, acidkissed and cooliside without neglecting some of its obvious rustic traits.
10:11 pm
Conk: pretty staple, quite okay however not all too harmonious. The natural cellulose paper glue and the "preoccuping" dried herbs are not so becoming. The rest is rather fine. Perhaps there is some mild smoke evolving at the moment.
Tongue: Besides its quite inharmonious attributes of bitterish oak and rustic structure not all too shabby at all, the vibrant red currants seem to gain some ground, acid not as harsh as earlier
Not all too sudden lethargy is about to happen! Next update tomorrow late afternoon ... I hope!
